1

Know what an inspection may document.

2

Prepare property, policy, roof, and prior-project records.

3

Use the report before jumping into a contract.

What the inspection may document

The inspection may look at items such as:

  • Roof covering
  • Roof deck attachment
  • Roof-to-wall connections
  • Secondary water resistance
  • Opening protection
  • Windows
  • Exterior doors
  • Garage doors
  • Skylights or glass block, if applicable

Before the inspection

Prepare:

  • Property address
  • Homeowner contact information
  • Insurance declarations page
  • Any prior wind-mitigation reports
  • Roof permit or roof replacement records, if available
  • Photos or records of prior window, door, garage door, or roof work
  • Access information for attic or relevant areas, if requested by the inspector

After the inspection

Do not jump straight into a contractor contract. First, read the report and identify:

  • What is already documented
  • What improvements are recommended
  • Which openings or roof details are involved
  • Which contractor categories may be needed
  • What questions to ask before quoting

We can help with

  • Inspection-prep checklist
  • Report review
  • Recommended improvement summary
  • Contractor question list
  • Quote comparison plan

Best next step

If your inspection is scheduled, use the prep checklist. If your report has arrived, send it for review before requesting quotes.
